L&P Stimulate Program for hair restoration allows our Palo Alto, San Jose, and San Francisco Bay Area patients to enjoy new hair growth without surgery. The Lieberman & Parikh Center for Hair Restoration offers this minimally invasive and safe procedure as part of both the Stimulate and Populate hair regrowth packages. L&P Stimulate for hair loss, when used in combination with other hair regrowth therapies, can effectively help men and women suffering from hair loss achieve the thicker, fuller hair they desire.
L&P Stimulate uses processed plasma, a concentration of your body's own growth factors. When injected back into your scalp as part of an L&P Stimulate hair loss treatment, they can stimulate and strengthen underperforming hair follicles to grow quicker and thicker. Since we use your own genetic material, the chances of adverse reactions or rejection are very low.
Dual-board certified surgeons and experienced in the field of hair restoration, Dr. David Lieberman and Dr. Sachin Parikh know that losing your hair can cause emotional distress and a loss in confidence. Drs. Lieberman and Parikh stay on the cutting-edge of hair regrowth treatments, including L&P Stimulate for hair loss, and they specialize in helping patients achieve their aesthetic goals through customized hair regrowth treatment plans.
If you are experiencing hair loss and want to know more about how L&P Stimulate is used in the Stimulate or Populate packages, please schedule a consultation with Dr. David Lieberman or Dr. Sachin Parikh at one of our Bay Area offices by calling us at (650) 327-3232 or emailing us.
The L&P Stimulate for hair loss process is essentially the same for both the Stimulate and Populate treatment plans, although more processed plasma is used with the Populate package.
Our registered nurse will draw a sample of your blood and then put the blood in a centrifuge to spin and separate the blood's components.
Human blood consists primarily of red and white blood cells, but the "solid" portion of the blood aids in wound healing. These are the platelets and plasma. Once the platelets and plasma are separated, our nurse temporarily stores them so they will multiply to a concentration that contains approximately three to five times the number of platelets found in normal blood. L&P Stimulate for hair loss also contains growth factors and other proteins that aid in the stimulation of hair follicles.
When processed plasma is injected as part of an L&P Stimulate for hair loss treatment, Drs. Lieberman and Parikh often create a ring-block of local anesthesia to alleviate any potential discomfort, or they will use a high-powered cooler to soothe the skin. Then, your processed plasma will be injected into areas of thinning hair in order to activate blood flow or encourage newly implanted hair follicles to return to the active growth phase.
The time it takes to complete injections for L&P Stimulate for hair loss depends on the amount of hair loss you've experienced. Usually, the procedure will last between two and four hours. At the Lieberman & Parikh Center for Hair Restoration, Drs. Lieberman and Parikh steer patients who are in the early phases of hair loss to the Stimulate Package, which includes a series of L&P Stimulate processed plasma injections along with nutraceutical, natural oral supplements and topical shampoos.
L&P Stimulate Program is a therapy that has been used effectively in orthopedics, neurosurgery, dentistry, and other medical settings for more than two decades. The principals behind why the treatment is effective are the same across all fields of medicine. Platelets in blood promote healing as well as accelerate the rate and degree of tissue regeneration.

L&P Stimulate for hair loss can be used preoperatively to stimulate inactive hair follicles, intraoperatively to enhance the growth abilities of harvested hair follicles, and postoperatively to encourage newly implanted hair follicles to grow.
Patients who are not ready for a NeoGraft hair transplant and our Populate Treatment Plan can still benefit from L&P Stimulate for hair loss with our Simulate Treatment Plan. The Stimulate plan is a customized treatment that includes vitamins, shampoo, as well as three rounds of L&P Stimulate processed plasma injections spaced three to four months apart.
When a patient experiences hair loss or hair thinning, the actual hair follicles have lost their density and produce only a single strand of hair. As a comparison, healthy hair follicles usually produce two to three strands of hair.

In combination with the treatments included in our Stimulate Treatment, L&P Stimulate for hair loss can help the underperforming follicles to grow thicker and denser. Some improvement in reversing the miniaturization of the follicles is usually noticed in the first couple months after one L&P Stimulate injection, but more likely, multiple treatments will be needed to see a real change.
During a hair transplant and the Populate package, processed plasma is used in two distinct ways. Immediately after harvesting your hair grafts, Drs. Lieberman and Parikh will store them in a holding dish of processed plasma so the hair follicles absorb all the good nutrients before being implanted. This important step increases the viability of the harvested hair follicles to grow.
Immediately following the transplant, Drs. Lieberman and Parikh usually inject more L&P Stimulate around the newly implanted follicles. This step of the process encourages formation of new growth and can boost the efficacy and speed of the transplant.
Many hair transplant patients see more robust results with hair growth when they receive a series of processed plasma injections postoperatively or after their NeoGraft hair transplant. The Populate package includes a series of three to six injections spaced three to five months apart. This continued boost into the scalp often expedites hair growth and enhances a patient's overall result.
Drs. Lieberman and Parikh would be happy to help anyone who wants to learn more about hair loss and hair restoration, and to determine whether L&P Stimulate for hair loss and/or other hair restoration treatments are appropriate for their type of hair loss. If a patient has been bald or nearly bald for many years, as is the case with Dr. Lieberman, neither L&P Stimulate for hair loss nor a NeoGraft hair restoration will cause any change in the amount of hair. After a prolonged period, hair follicles "die" and cannot be stimulated to regrow. In male pattern baldness, hair follicles change over time. If the hair loss is treated early enough, the follicles can still be stimulated with a therapy such as L&P Stimulate.
Patients with history of heavy smoking, drug use, or alcohol use may also not be good candidates for the treatment. Medical diagnoses such as platelet dysfunction syndromes, thrombocytopenia, hypofibrinogenemia, hemodynamic instability, sepsis, chronic liver disease, chronic skin diseases, and other metabolic and systemic disorders put patients at risk for this hair loss treatment.
To find out if you are a good candidate for L&P Stimulate for hair loss through the Stimulate or Populate treatment plans, it is necessary to consult with one of our dual-board certified surgeons experienced in hair restoration. This treatment is never considered a cure for the problem, and extensive clinical trials looking at the effectiveness of processed plasma on stimulating hair growth are still underway. No claim of processed plasma promoting hair growth can be made, because there is no FDA approval that would allow such claims to be made.
That said, processed plasma for hair loss treatments have anecdotally been proven effective for people with androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium, and thinning hair. These therapies have been FDA-approved in other medical and surgical disciplines for many years and are considered safe and natural.
